Blog 11-12-13 + 11-14-13 Thirsting to learn

What i am thirsting to learn is what to come in the final months of school for me as a senior. This is now the second marking period and i feel like everything is moving extra fast. It is already three months since the year started. I wasn't sure what to expect, or what was expected of me. The only constant thing would be that i would be stressed. What i am thirsting to learn is how someone manages everything in their final months of high school.

I have alot of things on my plate right now. Every night i have more homework then the previous. I have to do my college applications, study for the december 7th SAT's, get E's and G's on all my report cards, get to school on time for zero block, Study for tests and quizes, Pass my Pre-calculus class. There honestly is never enough hours in the day to complete everything that is due. What makes it worst is that the teachers don't colaborate with each other to relieve some of the stress load placed on their students even though they meet at least twice a month.

There are only a few things keeping me focused. My boyfriend for one, has always taken the time out to help me when i need it. My father had helped me with everything college related. I myself have my planner every where i go so that i never forget what needs to be done. And lastly, the satisfaction of knowing that i over came everything that usually breaks down people.

Blog 10-22-13 + 10-24-13 Last Research Paper

My last research paper was junior year. I was taking AP English with Ms. Prevosti. As a task, we had to find or create a research topic. Then with the research found write a 3 page research paper.  I chose to write about the New York City education system. I chose this topic because i wanted to know more about the education system.

When i was doing research, i had to completely a handout to make sure that i found all the information i needed to complete the assignment. The U.S. is one of the many developed countries in the world, yet our education system needs improvements. We are ranked i believe eleventh in the world. China i believe has taken first, while Finland and Australia surpass the U.S.

Ms. Prevosti did teach us about the research process. In class, before we were given the assignment, we read many articles on a research paper that someone wrote. This was to help us understand how to begin researching. I started off by finding books about our education system. I didn't enjoy the process because when i read the articles some of them didn't help me with my topic.

10-15-13 + 10-17-13 First Research Paper

I don't remember my first research assignment. I was probably in middle school, in the 6th grade. My old school made all the students in grades 5-8 participate in conducting individual science experiments. I remember we were given the option to work alone or with a partner to conduction science experiments. My friend/partner Jada and I, worked on the mental process of human beings.

In order to conduct the experiment, we needed six test subjects (people) , music, flash cards, and a stop watch. The subjects would be listening to music then have to say the colors that were on the index cards. The catch was that the word was written in different colors. For example: the word orange was write in the color brown. We timed the amount of time it took each person completed the set of cards. Then recorded it in our data.

After conducting the experiment, we had to find research on the mental process and how our brain processed information. This was difficult because we didn't know where to start. First we used Google search, then clicked a few links that had scientific explanations.  Our teacher didn't teach us about the research process. Jada borrowed some books, while i used the internet to read articles. I enjoyed doing the research because i was able to learn about the brain which is a very fascinating thing.

Blog 10-29-13 + 10-31-13 How I Learn

Throughout the years, I discovered that i learn in three different ways. Interpersonal, Kinesthic, and Linguistic. Interpersonal is when I use other people for help. This is true because when placed in groups for projects, I am always the first person to ask others for their opinions on the subject at hand. In Sophomore year, i was in a group with three other people and we had to draw a skit based on the story that we read in class. If i didn't work together with the other people then the assignment wouldn't have received a high score.

Kinesthic learning is learning through the use of body, and movements. When i was younger- probably in fifth grade- I would always sing and dance. I learned to use that as a form of studying. I was able to apply it mostly in my Science class, when we learned about the different body parts. All around  the house, i would make up my own lyrics, or recite the words for my notes. This was very successful.

The last way that i learn is Linguistic. Through reading words anyone can learn information that they didn't already know. This is why many people rely on books from the library, and the internet. Books like the dictionary, help when one is trying to learn the meaning of a word(s).When in class, and handed sheets on a topic, i always have a highlighter in hand. While reading i would highlight the most important things that stood out to me.

Blog 11-19-13 +11-21-13 What puzzles you?

Life will always be confusing but there are certain things that confuse me the most. I find that love and hate is the most confusing thing about life . Love makes everything confusing and changes you, but without it, would we even live? I believe love is the cure to many things. How can love be so gentle and heart warming and yet so complicated.

We've all had deep emotional and sensitive feelings for a significant other that eventually went downhill. Love turning into hate doesn't always happen very quickly but it can be gradual as well. Hatred builds up slowly but it doesn't just happen overnight. It might just be right in front of your eyes without even realizing it. Love always comes with a price and it just has to sink in before you settle down and loose yourself in a fantasy world.

When something real like love turns into hate I believe that it helps you see where you and that person stand; what you've never seen because of being blinded by love. But what's confusing is what happens after you finished hating that person. Do we just continue on with our lives? I say yes. It isn't healthy to have so much hate. I feel that people shouldn't make their love turn into hatred because it's a waste of time and energy.
